Take it to the House, My Rant

The polls, the polls, the polls. We might all as well pack it up and go home right now, today. The biased media has picked the winner among likely voters (freedom of the non-partisan press). The party has been planned. I "plan" to watch it on TV a week from Tuesday night, interested observer. Keith Obermann gloating, preening his feathers, Chris Matthews ready to run for Senator now. Rachel Maddow (who the hell is Rachel Maddow?) out in the streets dancing and singing, Bill O'Reilly crying foul, Sean Hannity bitterly laughing it off. And there will be rioting whether Obama wins or not. Yes, there will be rioting (and it will be our fault no matter what). Clean sweep for the Democratic party. I told you so's. Good, America has spoken. Our "democracy"/(or was it a republic?) has the capacity to weather the self interested, the "all about me" generation. Lobbyists, socialists, it does not matter.

Now what? Fix it, fix it like no one has ever fixed it before. This is your second, third chance. But the uninformed keep voting for you because you keep them marginalized in your interest John Breaux, AARP, Jesse Jackson, AAWU, NAACP, sugar growers, cotton growers, oil companies. We can't give the old enough free medicine, nor the poor enough free money, even though the poor (with some hard working exceptions - oh but that would mean the dreaded capitalism) cheat the welfare system.

Did you see "60 Minutes" tonight? The piece that threw Alan Greenspan and Bill Clinton under the bus:

Watch CBS Videos Online

even though Barney Frank, chairman of the House Committee on Financial Services, and his henchmen sold Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac out a long time agow as evidenced in this article from U.S. New and World Report.

Am I bitter? Hell no. I have seen it all of my life. Yes I''m from the South. However, I am from Houston, TX...not such a small town.

I'm headed to the house folks, I voted early to make sure my vote counts...I work hard, no I'm no millionaire like my boss...but I am happy, my son will be graduating from LSU one of these years. My husband and I have worked all of our lives for the fifth wheel we just purchased, hope we can both stay healthy long enough to enjoy it, I love God and hope we can all survive the "change" that's going to save us from this horrible world of capitalism.

Enjoy the party. Gomorrah is a nice town.

I've been here before...I could show you around.

Frito Pie

Clif called from Baton Rouge no less than 5 times this afternoon asking for my "Frito Pie Casserole" recipe. He and his girlfriend, Megan, were going to make it for dinner tonight. The recipe is from my childhood and involves a glass meatloaf/jello casserole dish and layers of chile, cheese, onions, and fritos. Not exactly haute cuisine or a dinner to impress the "company". But Clif has kind of caught on to cooking and making his own way, whereas his dad has trouble boiling an egg. Hell, Jim is the only person in the world that can scramble eggs and they come out looking like cottage cheese. We've been here before when a cousin caught Jim making breakfast for himself while I was in Shreveport one Saturday morning here. Anyway, Clif's Frito Pie just shows how "middle class" we are.

This election has gotten so nasty....I have a happy for you. No one hates Denny Crane! You have to appreciate this...THIS COMMERCIAL IS NOT ABOUT RACE. It's about guns...I've never laughed so hard in my life.

Que sera sera.

Let's Go RVing

Jim and I went down to Cypress Bend Rec Area on Toledo Bend Reservoir this weekend. He couldn't get off early Friday so we went up Saturday morning and stayed until today. Good time, lots of good food, met a few folks camping next to us. Generally lots of fun, yes? Oh just wait. Normally we camp at Sam Rayburn Reservoir because there are no stumps in the lake (at least where we camp), but Big Sam took a giant hit from Hurricane Ike and almost all of the rec areas are closed because, as Judy at the Corps of Engineers office said, their biggest danger from most hurricanes is not the trees that fall (East Texas/West Louisiana = tons of pine trees) but the "hangers" that fall off later and kill people.

We have not been to Cypress Bend in a long time and it's changed quite a bit. Picture time!

Set up, ready to go. Mr. LSU reading Tiger Rag getting ready for Saturday night's game.

View from the jetty

Good view of the lake

First night's sunset - hurry up, LSU game about to start.

Norman came along. The little feller likes to camp.

The trailer up the way was gorgeous and huge.
Cypress Bend is in the middle nowhere so we could get no TV and my satellite dish is not working for some reason so we got to listen to the LSU game on AM radio WWL out of New Orleans.Norman loves the water.
He was in the water most of the time.
AND THEN IT HAPPENED...

I FELL

I FELL HARD

I TRIED TO BREAK MY FALL WITH MY LEFT HAND

I SPRAINED MY HAND AND MY WRIST

I THINK I HAD TIME TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE DOG ON MY WAY DOWN.

The next think that I knew, THUNK, the side of my face hit the ground and I saw Norman looking at me sideways, kind of like this.
And now I look like I've been in a bar fight in Zwolle.

The only good thing about the rest of the weekend was the company I kept.

Maybe we'll just keep the RV in the driveway next weekend.

Spread the Wealth

I am not missing, I was not missing, I was rv-ing, busy registering to vote as Mickey Mouse, Jerry Jones, Martin Luther King, and John Lennon....

However, I have an answer to the Paul Newman question first. I have found my new Paul Newman... Jonathan Rhys Meyers...

Oh, yes, blue eyes...Irish and an accent to die for. And a singer...

Both of my super cameras are ready to go...we went to Grand Bayou, Coushatta (ku shatta) last weekend and had a blast, off to Toledo Bend, Cypress Bend Recreational area this weekend. Not taking the boat because we want to acclimate to the RV...still, much more complicated yet soooooooo much easier and convenient than the tent and/or pop-up. Pictures to follow I hope.
